Thought big birds and little birds can’t along? Assume they would eat one another? Think again! I know I did after seeing this website and the photos on it. It absolutely blew me out of the water!

I’ve seen and read people mistaking these three importantly different aspects of parrots and their plumage. Although plucking parrots can tend to look somewhat like those parrots going through a molt and sometimes the act of plucking can look somewhat like a preening parrot – all aspects are entirely different and it’s important to be [...]

My three year old galah, Bondi, is not so fond of her new younger brother, Bandit. However, he is fond of being around her! So what to do?
Well, I found that they both needed a bath one day and there was no sense in me taking two just so they could each have one so [...]

Cuddler: Congo African Grey “Cressi”
I can’t even begin to list the numerous amounts of websites I have come across stating that African grey parrots are NOT cuddly; example 1, 2 & 3 (and mostly found in the social advice-giving settings and not from professionals). Kooky Congos writes some good stuff on the myths [...]

Although sunflower seeds are fattening, I want my birds to like them so I have something in good size to use for training purposes. So, during the weaning process, I introduce a limited amount of sunflower seeds along with real foods.
I’ve always started with “mushy” foods since baby birds are used to eating formula.
It [...]

Twins: Swainson Toucans “Meaka” and “Fiji”
It wasn’t always this way with these two toucans…
A lady in Sandpoint, Idaho owned Meaka (left) and she was the same age as Fiji (right) who we got at six months old. Meaka stayed in a pet shop all day and was a [...]

One of the many reasons it can be hard to introuduce your bird to new people is because new people who don’t know birds, don’t know how to properly handle or hold them. I’ve experienced it before – both not knowing what the heck I am doing and witnessing someone else not know for themselves! [...]

In Flight: Military Macaw “Cash”
My military macaw, Cash, is 3 years old. He should be flying as well as my other birds (Cressi, Bondi, Bandit) but he does not and is not. His breeder who was in New York claimed he was properly fledged as a young macaw. We got [...]

I just happened to come across this website during some research about phobias, desensitizing and overcoming fears… and I loved it and wanted to share it.
The specific part of the website I came across and enjoyed was the “Educational Stories“.
The stories are short and easy to read, relate to and often include great photos of [...]

I am constantly recommending these birds as pets. I first heard about them from Dave when he took a trip to Australia by himself and saw them all around. In Australia, they are called “galahs” and are pretty much pigeons there and pests. But in the [...]
