Traveling in Style

Posted by: Jamieleigh on: January 29, 2009

I’m all about providing the utmost comfort for my birds during travel… and letting them travel in style! So, we recently bought a trailer for all our stuff (20 feet long) and made the first few feet an area exclusively for the birds!

Toucans Eat Meat!

Posted by: Jamieleigh on: January 27, 2009

While toucans are primarily fruit eaters, they also eat a variety of meat like insects, other bird’s young or eggs, spiders and smaller birds. In captivity, we’re told to give mealworms to toucans. You can actually find them at some gas stations like we did when we were on the road from Florida to Idaho [...]

Mellow Parrots

Posted by: Jamieleigh on: January 24, 2009

Bandit, my youngest rose breasted cockatoo, is always hyper active and full of energy. Well, while spending the holidays with my parents in Idaho, he really mellowed out. It surprised me a ton! Especially because he and Cressi (my African Grey) were mellow at the exact same time.

I’ve always noticed people talking about “birdie bread” online on various websites and forums and never paid it much attention… until now. I finally decided to see what the fuss was about and ended up on Momma Bird.

I found that it doesn’t take much of my time to bake a little bread for my [...]

Natural Baths Outside

Posted by: Jamieleigh on: January 16, 2009

I get asked a lot if I bring my birds in from their outdoor aviaries when it rains. Well, living in Florida, it rains almost every day at the same time and a lot more in the winter. It pretty much rains all the time!

And honestly, it’s a hassle to bring [...]

What Desenzitization Is & Why You Should Use It With Your Bird

Posted by: Jamieleigh on: January 15, 2009

I talk about desensitizing your bird pretty often with different things like dropping books or introducing a new toy, it can be something simple or something really odd (like a giant pinata!)

The purpose of desensitization is to get your bird use to as many different things as possible as a way to reduce the impact [...]
