Jamieleigh's Parrot Help

About Jamieleigh…

Mag Cover

My name is Jamie (I commonly go by Jamieleigh) and I’ve created this weblog to share what I know about parrots (and toucans). Some of you may know me from various you tube bird training videos or from modeling campaigns, or you may not know me at all! Either way, I started this blog as kind of a keepsake for my own birds and experiences with them as well as to educate others and learn from them, too.

I never used to like birds of any kind, in fact, you could say I highly disliked them. I grew up in California and owned roosters, chickens and ducks. The roosters would chase me around my yard at the age of 3, and I once saw our ducks drown a baby chick. Needless to say, I didn’t have much respect for any of my now feathered friends.

However, I’ve now had experience raising my own parrots and toucans from babies. I’ve hand fed parrots, raised them, bred them and nurtured them. I’ve performed in stage shows with them and performed numerous amounts of training, taming and tricks. Everything from clicker conditioning, target training, behavior shaping; to wild bird taming and overcoming serious behavior problems on top of free flighting outdoors.

I have even modeled with these beautiful creatures on the covers of magazines (pictured above is me on the cover of Island Locator Magazine with my galah, Bondi). I am now an avid bird trainer and lover.

It takes a great parrot owner to have an equally great pet parrot. I’d love to help improve the life of pet parrots around the world by helping educate their owners.

I definitely don’t claim to know everything, however, I love sharing what I do know and have experienced first hand. So just as I write with an open mind, read with an open mind as well.

Feel free to ask your questions here and I’d be more than happy to answer them. I disallow comments on most posts just to keep questions in one place and not so scattered and because it can become over-bearing to check them all. I prefer personally replying back to questions/comments/concerns privately via email and sometimes I will make a post regarding your question if I feel it will apply to a majority of bird owners.

Awesome interaction Jamie…Thank you for sharing & caring~ Most of all, our feathered ones >>THANK YOU!!
Our world needs more like you…Mother Nature needs those like yourself to help the innocent critters man chooses to violate…whether through ignorance or otherwise~

Heya (:
We think what you’ve done with Bondi and Cressi is amazing!
The way you freefly the is awesome.
We were really looking into getting a Galah cockatoo.
We think Bondi is beautiful, do the male Galahs make as lovely pets as the females?
Also if we were to have a male, would we eventually be able to keep two males together in the same cage, as you have Bondi and Cressi?
We have recently been to see some, and we particularly liked this male, he was gorgeous, but we were just so worried when he gets mature, we are aware of the cockatoo male aggression. We would rather wait for a female if it meant avoiding this aggression and being able to keep a companion with it.
We would really appreciate it if you could send an email?

Thankyou v.much Jamie

Hi Jamie.
My mum and I really appreciate you taking the time to write such an informative reply. We have watched all your videos of Bondi and Cressi, and we have studied all your parrot help pages, they are excellent, keep on writing (:
We have still got a lot to think about, and you have been a great help.
Many thanks

Anytime, I’m glad I could help and good luck! I just posted a new blog with a photo of my male cockatoo sitting with my male macaw so you can get a real idea of how socializing outside of the cage works, too!
