The last few days Lexi’s weight has reached the high 20’s (28, 29) and Nikko is back in the early 30’s (30, 31). They’re both acting great but are not so happy about taking their medications anymore. Which to me, is a sign they are feeling much better! They’re [...]

Thursday night (the day we took the parakeets to the vet) we gave them their medications (all 3 of them) and they did really well. Once Nikko realized we weren’t going after puss in his cere, he took his medication graciously. His cere was [...]

Patients: Parakeets “Lexi” and “Nikko”
Because I am constantly weighing my birds I normally know their average, full and lightest weights off the top of my head. Having 4 parakeets makes that a little trickier because it’s much easier to get their weights confused but because Lexi is the only female, [...]

Flying: Parakeets
The above photo shows what healthy budgies/parakeets look like. They aren’t clipped, they are flying skillfully and they are landing back on their owner (showing a bond).
I recently got a call from a client asking if I’d be interested in going out and purchasing him a parakeet and training it [...]

I’m a stickler about weighing my own birds anytime I have them out and a scale is nearby. I have charts devoted to recording their weights. And most of my birds weights are memorized based on their “stuffed full” weight and working weights. Then they all have an average [...]

Remember all the ways to bathe your bird from Bathing Your Parrot Properly?
Well, I wanted to show you how much parakeets enjoy bathing! I use a lot of different bathing methods due to traveling so much but the one I use when I’m at home is using a spray bottle to mist my parakeets. Here [...]

If you look real close… you will see three pure white parakeets in that monster of a cage.
That cage is actually meant for my macaws when they aren’t in their outside aviaries… it is their indoor cage, but since they had been spending the [...]

Parakeets are so underestimated!
Though they are capable of SO MUCH, they are often overlooked because most people want a parrot that can talk. Well, I’ve got news – parakeets can talk! And although they aren’t “well known” for it, they should be.
Learn how to teach your current bird how to talk.

Male Parakeet “Visa”
Not many species of parrots are dimorphic, meaning you can tell the difference in gender by their outer appearance or colors. For example, mallard ducks – the males are colorful and beautiful while the females are bland and brown. Parakeets are also dimorphic by the color of their [...]
